Florida’s sandhill ecosystems are some of the most rare and ecologically important habitats in the United States, but many have been severely degraded due to logging, fire suppression, and encroachment by off-site species. In Seminole Forest, we’re restoring this fragile ecosystem by removing encroaching sand pines, reintroducing prescribed fire, and hand-planting longleaf pine. Why longleaf?
