🦇 Did you know that the bone structure of a bat’s wing is very similar to a human hand? 🦇 🦴 They have flexible fingers with a thin membrane of skin stretched across, and a small claw that resembles a thumb. Some people find bat wings a little creepy but when you look at them, they are an absolute marvel of nature. Bat wings are not dissimilar to human hands in that there are four fingers and a thumb. Cooked sweet corn on the cob is a very welcome additon to the diet of our bats in care. With so many juveniles coming in from rescue many have never encountered corn on the cob before as it isn't a food they get in the wild. Flying-foxes are up for just about anything and they really do catch on very quickly and soon realise what a yummy treat corn is. Any flying-fox by itself through the day is in trouble. What is a flying-foxes favourite food next to mangoes, paw paw and cooked corn on the cob? It would have to be fresh browse and why not when you consider the life of a flying-fox in the wild. We try and provide as much flowering and leafy browse as possble for our bats in care and their enjoyment is obvious.
